Hey, Girls, Hey… Somehow, it became June, but I had a ton of MAY things to talk about, so I thought I’d sneak in this May currently post. Sound good? Thanks, dolls…
CURRENT BEST FRIEND SURPRISE
Sometimes, your friends need you. Many times, they don’t ask. And when this happens, you show up.
Working on the sly with my friend Angela, we pulled off a last minute surprise for one of my favorite people on the planet. I flew into Nashville on a whim to spend the night with my girl. Best surprise ever. (PS… You might remember that she pulled off a surprise of her own with me a few years back – – video here!)
CURRENT VACATION PLANNING SECRET
Whenever I’m on vacation, I’m typically planning for next. The final moments of a trip are a great time to come up with the next adventure to look forward to. Especially after staring up at these beauties for a few days, I needed to know that SOMETHING was coming up where I was able to canoodle amongst the palm trees.
While I don’t know where my next vacation will be (I’m thinking somewhere fun for summer!), I do know that I’ll definitely be back here at the spa the week of Memorial Day next year. There’s something GLORIOUS about being on vacation the week of Memorial Day. Everyone goes home and goes back to work, and there’s not many new people who show up. It’s quiet and delicious. Find your favorite spot, and go there the week of Memorial Day. You won’t be sorry.
Current Flower Season
It’s Peony Season!!!! Is there a more glorious time of year??? I think not! I need to get back to Trader Joe’s for another bunch before they vanish from the stores!
In the meantime, I’m also really loving the Peony Blossom candle they’re selling this season…
Current Art Exhibit
While we’ve been to Arizona a million times, I looked online and on Instagram to find things that I wanted to do this trip. We had several days, and I know my travel buddy likes to get out and see things in town. Somewhere on social media I stumbled upon Wonderspaces. You guys, this place BLEW MY MIND.
Available in both Scottsdale and San Diego, Wonderspaces is an interactive, immersive art exhibit that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. From light shows to virtual reality experiences (my first!) to rooms of string that made you think, this place was incredible.
If you’re anywhere close to these exhibits, please buy a ticket. Well worth every penny. Also, the exhibit changes out about every 5 months they told me, to allow for new art to be available. Love, love, loved it!
Current Book
Speaking of loves, I loved this book. After a particularly exhausting work week in May, I got the urge to get lost in a book. This book, I’d purchased earlier in the year with hopes of reading it. It was a Reece Witherspoon book club pick and folks were raving about it. A million months later, I finally read it. In 36 hours.
This story is warm and beautiful, and a great love story. I don’t want to tell you too much about One Day in December, because I want you to experience it as I did. If you read it, please let me know what you think! I’m obsessed and super excited for the author to write more.
Current Meditation Moment
Months ago, I signed up to attend a mediation in May at one of our local museums. The Clyfford Still Museum in Downtown Denver holds the most beautiful meditation in their galleries – – STILLness in Meditation. It’s free to the public, with a reservation.
The perfect antidote to the “Sunday Scaries,” it’s half seated meditation, and half walking meditation. I can’t wait for the June session!
CURRENT BEVERAGE IDEA
A few months ago, my Jenny Craig consultant gave me the idea to turn my rosé into a spritzer to cut back on the calories. If I’m honest, I turned my nose COMPLETELY up to that idea. There was no way I was going to water down my rosé. Or so I thought…
When I was at Montelucia, this was my little poolside secret. To make you’re wine a spritzer, ask the bartender to serve you half a glass of wine, topped off with 1/2 a glass of seltzer water. All the flavor of your favorite wine, half the calories! Genius!
Current Chef’s Kitchen Event
While we were on property at Montelucia, I realized that the executive chefs were hosting a “Rosé All May” evening on Wednesday night. While Donna doesn’t enjoy rosé and opted out of the event, I got myself dressed and went alone! Such a lovely evening of food and wine, and a proper celebration of my favorite pink wine!
Current Styling Tool
I finally bit the bullet and tried this styling tool last month. It is incredible! It’s a round brush and blow dryer in one, and creates blowout worthy styles in minutes! Made by Revlon, I picked mine up at Amazon. Totally worth a try, folks!
Current Crafting
This month, I went to a wedding and found the perfect fun yellow dress for the event. I also found this cork bag (and matching cork shoes).
At the same time, I felt like the bag could benefit from a few pom poms. I mean, isn’t everything a little more fun with a few poms??
I picked up a set of pom pom makers from Amazon and voila! A quick added pop of color for a fun night on the town.
Current Shredded Cabbage Solution
Did you know that the deli at Sprouts will slice veggies for you? I didn’t know this either. On a recent trip to Sprouts, I realized they were out of shredded red cabbage… and the team offered to slice some fresh for me! Check out all this beautiful cabbage sliced just for little ol’ me!
Current Fashion Thought
Spotted this at one of my favorite boutiques…
Current Appetizer Obsession
While I’ve enjoyed it for years, I’ve become extra obsessed this month with the True Food Kitchen Farmer’s Market Crudités. It’s literally the most beautiful and healthy appetizer on the planet. And, I’m working on duplicating the black olive dip that they serve with it.
CURRENT FAVORITE DRESS MOMENT
I went to a college reunion on the last day of May, and found the perfect dress for the Friday night event from Lulu’s.
I’m obsessed with the high neckline that I’m seeing all over town. Perfect for this modest girl… Link to the dress here (and it’s on sale!)
CURRENT MESSAGE FROM BEYOND
While we were at the Wonderspaces exhibit I mentioned above, one of my favorite stops was at a piece called The Last Word.
These tiny rolled up pieces of paper give you an opportunity to share your last words for something left unsaid, and at the same time, you can pull a message to read… perhaps a message you might need. I pulled this one, and as always, it was just what I needed in that moment.
