January! My birth month, and one of my favorites as a result. Many of years, I’ve had healthier birthday cakes, like this one. To kick off this currently post, let me tell you about my current birthday cake situation: I did not have birthday cake this month. I feel like I cannot remember a birthday where I didn’t have birthday cake and where I truly said no thanks to cake. So, let’s mark that as a win!
CURRENT SUITCASE OBSESSION
My 2018 travels are kicking up again. I’ve got trips for days planned for work, with a little fun mixed in. I splurged a few weeks back and bought an Away suitcase. Have y’all seen these?
I picked the Bigger Carry On (because, well, it’s bigger) and I use it for overnight trips when I can carry on easily.
You guys, this suitcase has a battery pack in it! No more searching for a power outlet at the airport. It takes USB input and charges up to 4 devices.
This month, I devoured the latest book from Elin Hilderbrand. Have you read her Winter series? I just read the very last of the bunch: Winter Solstice (affiliate link) and it was just lovely. I miss the Quinn family already. HIGHLY recommend this series, start with Winter Street.
CURRENT APPLIANCE ACQUISITION
Last month, my microwave started sparking randomly. I didn’t really plan on replacing it, but I had no choice. It’s not like I can live without a microwave.
I decided to get one to match my new(ish) fridge. And, I’m in love.
It’s supposedly easy to clean, and the fan will turn on automatically when it detects steam. How cool is that?
CURRENT BACKSTAGE EXPERIENCE (ETC, ETC)
One of my dear sorority sisters from college messaged me this month to let me know that she was in Denver because her son is touring with the King and I! Sarah messaged me late afternoon on a Friday, offering me a free ticket to the show. Of course, I said yes… and was super excited to see her (after about 20 years!)
The show was fantastic, and as a special treat, Sarah and her talented son Ryan offered to give me a backstage tour of the Denver Performing Arts Center! So so cool to see all that happens behind the stage. An amazing experience, and a lovely night at the theater.
Bonus points if you caught the pun in the title of this section. 🙂
CURRENT RECIPE OBSESSION
2-Ingredient Dough. My first recipe with this amazing dough is coming to you Wednesday on NTTC. Wait until you see how easy and DELICIOUS it is!
CURRENT COLORING HABIT
I got this super cute coloring kit for my birthday from one of my friends, and I’ve been coloring it all month long. Super cute and from Hallmark, if you’re looking for an awesome gift for a friend.
Also, I’ve never really been into the adult coloring book trend, but I’m officially a fan. I’ve used it on long conference calls to keep myself from multitasking… it totally works. Keep in mind, I work from home so it works. I don’t recommend doing this in an office, obviously. lol
CURRENT MOTIVATIONAL MOMENT
Did you guys watch the Golden Globes? I hope you did, and I hope you saw Oprah take the stage. Her speech gave me chills and created tears.
CURRENT TRAVEL BREAKFAST
I had the best hotel travel breakfast this week. While the buffet would have been quicker, I ordered a side of sauteed veggies with very little oil. I had them add a side of avocado, and voila…. REALLY delicious and filling.
CURRENT WORKOUT WIN
I have stayed at the Renaissance ClubSport in Aliso Viejo so many times over the years and have NEVER used their gym. Well, that ended this week. So proud and it’s a really nice gym! No RHOC spottings, in case you were wondering.
CURRENT CONDIMENT LOVE
Lately, I can’t get enough mustard in my life… and this one from Trader Joe’s has my heart, for obvious reasons. #ilovebeets
CURRENT APPLIANCE AFFECTION
Spending the weekend in California with my friend Crystal, I tried her air fryer (again) and I think I’m going to have to jump on the bandwagon. It cooks things SO SO quickly and seems super convenient. Click this link to see the one I purchased – – affiliate link.
