So so much to report this month… If you’re following me on Instagram, you’ve likely had some spoilers, but here’s the news, y’all…
CURRENT FAVORITE MOMENT OF MAY
Meeting Elizabeth Gilbert… and attending her speaking engagement. Read all about that amazing night here.
CURRENT TRAVEL SHOTS
You’re not even going to believe it, but I’ve been home all month. ALL MONTH LONG. Since I’ve started my new job, this hasn’t been the case AT ALL. But, I’m traveling on Wednesday for a long holiday weekend… I’ll tell you more about that later in this post as it definitely falls into the “excitement” category.
CURRENT JAM
I love this song. I can’t even handle how much… it is so my jam.
CURRENT FLOWER OBSESSION
Peonies!!! I remember Blair Waldorf going on and on about peonies, but I didn’t really get her obsession. My goodness, now I totally do. Their fragrance is delightful and the blooms are so, so pretty.
New to the world of peonies, I have a bad feeling that they have a short life cycle… but I’m so, so glad I picked up a bunch at Trader Joe’s last week. I’ll be looking for more…because I think they NEED to be in my office every week. Not likely, but a girl can dream.
CURRENT BUILD-YOUR-OWN BREAKFAST
I mentioned last month that I’m not a big fan of dining out for breakfast/brunch. My appetite rushes to the french toast and pancakes, since I’m not an egg eater. This month, I had a delightful brunch with my friend Beverly and maybe, just maybe I’m turning a corner.
We attempted to have brunch at the ever-popular Devil’s Food in Wash Park; however, when their wait was 45 minutes, we opted for Max’s Gill and Grill.
What you see above is *obviously* their Veggie Benedict (with no portabello mushrooms, no eggs, add avocado, and the hollandaise on the side) – – Delish! And, just what I wanted.
It’s also a little bit fun to order, since Bev cracks up as this scene goes down pretty much everywhere we go.
Moral of the Story: Order what you’d like, how you’d like it, and in a way that helps you stay on track!
CURRENT READ
This month, I read the sequel to Me Before You by JoJo Meyes. If you haven’t read After You and its prequel, it’s time! Love both of these books!
Has anyone read any others by this author? I think I’m going to need to download another….
CURRENT CHEESY SNACK LOVE
I found two things this month that I think are pretty amazing. The first comes from my friends at Laughing Cow Cheese. I saw an ad on TV about their new breadstick dippers, and I found them in the refrigerated section of my local grocery store.
So so good, and so reminiscent of those yellow cheese + crackers that I used to get as a kid… you know the one with the red stick?
CURRENT VEGGIE SNACK LOVE
You guys!!! Check these out. Spotted on Instagram, and then later at Trader Joe’s where the new products are always placed.
I initially bought three bags of these (before even tasting them!) and I had to go back for more. They’re made from (you guessed it) just beets.. and they’re amazing. Crunchy, chip-like… and so beety delish! I paired them with Laughing Cow’s Creamy Asiago recently and it was incredible. I’ve got plenty more dried beets for future pairings… will keep you posted. Also, of note, because these are “Just Beets” they don’t have that oily taste/feel that the ones in the bulk bins tend to have. They’re perfect.
CURRENT OUTFIT SELECTION
My work-from-home game is strong these days, which means most days I’m in comfy clothes working my behind off. In early May, I decided to use this month as a time to go through my workout/lounging clothes, wearing them all.. and getting rid of what I wasn’t going to wear/didn’t like how it looked.
Well, I got rid of a ton, and I even organized where they all live. Hoping to keep this organized at least for a few weeks. Forever would be great… it gets crazy in there.
CURRENT NEW FOOD
I’ve mentioned before that I was a terribly picky child. This week, I tried something I refused to eat as a child. Marshmallow always weirded me out from a texture perspective. So, I refused to eat them.
What the heck??? How have I missed this delightful treat for 39 years?? So incredibly good and definitely a great splurge. It almost makes me want to camp… almost.
CURRENT EXCITEMENT
On Wednesday, I leave for a yoga/meditation retreat hosted by some pretty incredible people in a pretty phenomenal place. I made a last-minute decision to do this for myself and to forgo my traditional Memorial Day weekend plans.
As mentioned, I’m trying to focus on what brings me joy and really live in the moment these days… I’m certain I’ll be sharing more about this adventure as it unfolds in the days that lie ahead.
