Tuesday night, I had an opportunity to go to see one of my favorite artists perform. And, when I say “one of my favorite,” I mean… I went to see my FAVORITE artist perform.
Waiting 6 months for the day to arrive, I was so excited when it was time for the show. This year’s tour was a little different though… Kelly wasn’t the headliner, and Angela wouldn’t be singing and dancing next to me throughout the show. Both of these made the scenario quite different than shows of the past.
The tour is actually called The Honda Civic tour and featured not only Kelly Clarkson, but also Maroon 5. Maroon 5’s songs are catchy, and they have so many hits that I figured it would be ok. But, I clearly was there to see my girl Kelly belt out all of my favorite songs.
My friend Jade mentioned to me that if Kelly ever came back to Denver, she’d be totally down for joining me… so she and I made plans to go! We had a blast!
When we arrived at Fiddler’s Green, the opening act “Rossi Crane” had already taken the stage to warm the crowds up for the main event. We actually had pretty good seats, fairly close to the stage… which was awesome. And, actual seats too…. which proved to be important to me. I think my days of lawn seats have passed.
When Kelly took the stage, she was {as usual} FLAWLESS. Seriously, to be able to sing that well… how awesome would that be???
She opened with her hit song “Stronger” and sang through so many of the hits from her first five albums. Yes, she’s had more than five… crazy to think it’s been that long!
By now you know I’m a mega-fan when it comes to KC… I mean, as Angela and I always say, she sings the soundtrack of our lives. The perfect songs to help you get through those moments when you need music to help you make it through, and an anthem of important life events
Breakaway… for when you want to dream big
Never Again… for when those slightly terrible awful moments happen
Behind These Hazel Eyes… for when you get your heart broken and you need to sing it out
People Like Us… for when you need to be reminded that you can handle anything
Stronger… for when you need to run on the treadmill
And, I could go on for days…
Since You’ve Been Gone…. when you need loud music to sing to in the car
Miss Independent… A song clearly written about me
But, I’ll stop. I think you get it…
For me, for every moment in my life, she’s written the song. I’m just so incredibly thankful that her songs are getting a little happier… I need some of those happy songs too. 🙂
Her most memorable performances of the night were an amazing rendition of Because of You, performed in evening gown…
An acoustic version of “Don’t You Wanna Stay“… and a badass glow-in-the-dark rendition of “People Like Us.”
She also did a throwback, motown version of “Walk Away” that I adored. But, my favorite song of the night was her cover of Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved A Man.”
To be able to sing Aretha like that… yeah, you’ve gotta have an amazing voice, and she KILLED it!
Once Kelly was done, I was a little disappointed. There’s always one more song I want to hear, or just a little more time. But, the crowd was ready for Maroon 5 and waited patiently for the next act to take the stage.
So… before we talk about Maroon 5, let’s talk a little bit about their lead singer, Adam Levine. So… I’m a little late to the game on this one. I have many of my friends that swoon after him, and were dying when they heard I was going to see Maroon 5… but I didn’t really get this whole thing until Tuesday night. Now, I totally get it…
And, in addition to getting to see this delicious man perform on stage for over an hour, I also had forgotten how many hits Maroon 5 has… even though I haven’t traditionally been a huge fan of the band, I knew ALL of the songs that they played and many of the lyrics.
And… when I got home, I downloaded a bunch more that I didn’t have in my iTunes library. After the concert, I know I’m going to be listening more often…
And, they were AWESOME entertainers… keeping the crowd singing and drooling over the lead singer. The audience was mostly ladies, and you could tell why they were there.
I sat behind an eleven(ish) year old, that loved Adam much like the rest of the crowd… and this picture pretty much summed it up well.
After the concert, all I can think about is that I can’t wait until the next one. I even googled the tour to see if there were any additional dates I could catch, but unfortunately, the last of the shows are next week in Cali. And, that would be super tricky to pull off.
Alas, I’ll just have to wait for Kelly’s new Christmas album to release… and for her next tour dates to publish. It was an amazing show, and next time, Angela… you’ll be sitting next to me.
Have you ever seen Kelly or Maroon 5 in concert?
