Being the social chairman for an organization of fabulous women in Denver, I get to plan some pretty cool events.
On Monday night, I had a chance to go here….
And watch this…
FILM ON THE ROCKS!
Red Rocks Amphitheater is one of the MOST AMAZING venues on the planet. The acoustics and the sheer beauty of those red-toned rocks make it a sought-after location for concert-goers and musicians alike. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing a show here before when my friend Angela was in town, and this is the second time I had a chance to go to Film on the Rocks.
Every week on Monday or Tuesday night, the amphitheater opens up to show an outdoor movie. I’ve seen Footloose there before, and they show movies like The Big Lebowski, The Princess Bride (next week!), and Office Space… fun movies people love, and those that usually draw a big crowd.
Last night was no exception as a full house showed up for the viewing of the Hunger Games…
When I arrived, there were people lined up to get into the venue. And, you get to walk up the BIGGEST ramp to get in. Once you’re up the ramp, believe it or not… you’re only at the bottom of the venue.
I wore my new Crocs flats to the event. I wanted to try them out… and I wanted to see what type of support they would give me. Think of it as their official “tryout” for the San Fran trip… SUCCESS!
Once I got inside of the event center, I still had more climbing to do to get to the top of the Amphitheater, where I said I would meet the ladies…
Oh my, the steps!
Next time, I will most certainly suggest meeting people at the bottom of the amphitheater! Phew! While I’m not afraid to work it and do some stairs… this is a lot when you’re dressed in full attire, and not workout clothes! Exhibit A:
It’s no wonder that they run a lot of boot camps and fitness classes here at Red Rocks… you get your workout. In the end, I found the ladies and found a seat amongst a few thousand of our closest friends.
While the amphitheater opens up at 6:30, they wait until dark to show the film… so in the meantime, they have bands that play, a comedian that performs… all while you sit and visit with friends, enjoy delish Colorado beer, and if you’re me.. eat the dinner you brought!
You can bring food in, which of course I did… I would rather enjoy a Subway Veggie Delite than chance it with concert food!
Seriously, could this place be more beautiful??
The sun finally set, and it didn’t even rain (despite being prepared for it with an umbrella.) And the concert ended… and the comedian did his thing, and the cartoons played. The moon even made an appearance.
And then FINALLY… it was time for the show!
And, despite the odds being EVER in our favor, I had to leave shortly after the reaping. Being that it was 9:30pm already and I had a HUGE day to prep for my San Fran trip… I left the show early.
I’ll definitely have to re-watch the movie from home, but I needed my rest! Who knew the shows ran so late (and on a school night!)??
I would love to go back. AND… to stay for the entire movie. The summer’s not over yet, I suppose!
Have you seen any outdoor movies this year??
