Sunday was one of the best days I’ve had in a while. Weekend days are usually peppered with to-do’s and while today was, it wasn’t as intense as most I’ve had.
I even checked in on my bird friends, and I think they had a good weekend too by the looks of it.
Back to my story… I got up early and did all of my chores at the house. And, thankfully, I was done cleaning everything up by about 9:30am. How great is that?? After goofing off for a while, I decided to make my first trip to the pool of the season.
Our pool isn’t huge, but it’s ours. The other thing that’s cool is that it’s not always used. So, a lot of times, it’s a private pool experience. Today, it was just me and one other girl. Quiet perfection.
Because of the altitude, the sun in Colorado is a little extra intense. We’re so much closer to it afterall. It usually only takes me about an hour to get my fill of pool time. Today with my SPF 30, I kicked it up to an hour and a half. Time flew by, primarily because I had good reading materials with me.
I’ve been horrible about keeping up with my magazines lately. I have a stack on my counter that’s ridiculous. I’m not really ready to throw them out without reading them… but it’s a bit of a chore to go through them. Today, I read 6 at the pool, and there was an article in Self Magazine from April (yes, I have that many stacked up) that really resonated with me.
They had an article about losing 10 pounds (which I’d like to do) but the eating plan and workout plan wasn’t really what resonated with me the most. It was the pledge.
In anything you do, it’s the mental piece that’s going to bring you the greatest success. When your outlook is strong and you have your eyes situated firmly on your goal, that’s when you see results. I loved this pledge, so I’m going to share it with you and commit myself to it. It’s everything that I want in my healthy self, especially the first piece about respecting yourself.
Commit to Get Fit!
From Self Magazine – April 2012…
Starting now, I vow to….
1) RESPECT MYSELF: My body deserves nutritious food. My heart deserves to pound. My skin deserves to sweat. My muscles deserve to flex. I’ll give my body every chance to do what it’s built for.
2) LOVE MYSELF: I will banish negative thoughts, whatever my shape or size, knowing that I’m beautiful, strong, and capable. I’ll never feel guilty for taking good care of my body and my mind.
3) BELIEVE IN MYSELF: I will do my best. If my willpower wavers, I’ll refocus and trust that my inner strength will keep me going.
4) HAVE FUN: Because otherwise, what’s the point!?!?
How powerful is that? I actually tore the article out of the magazine and I’ve saved it. It’s going to become my mantra in upcoming weeks… my reminder of why I will stay healthy and make good choices.
Question: How do you keep yourself on track and motivated? Do you have a mantra?
[…] During my cleanout of magazines, I also found a yummy recipe for a grilled romaine salad with a tasty vinaigrette in one of my old issues of Self. If you’ve never had grilled romaine, it’s definitely something to try. I love a good grilled caesar salad and was eager to try this out. […]
