It’s taken me a few days to pull together my plans for 2013, but I wanted my resolutions to be JUST RIGHT!
Interestingly, over the past few days as I’ve been prepping, the news, radio, and just about everywhere I’ve gone, I’ve been greeted with nay-sayers. Ex. Resolutions don’t work, I’m not making them, etc.
Most people I’ve heard say that they are not making them have indicated that they never keep them anyway. Hmmm…. do resolutions not work, or are you picking the wrong resolutions? I’d tend to say it’s the latter.
There’s also another community of people that say they set GOALS, not resolutions. Ok, semantics…. you’re still setting resolutions, people.
I’m 150% setting goals, setting resolutions, planning for positive change. If I hadn’t made plans for change two years ago, how could I have ever made this happen??
When you’re making plans, it’s important that you’re specific and also that you’re setting things that are attainable. I also add in that you need to be setting ones that you’re PASSIONATE about. For example, I am not going to make it a resolution to go to more nightclubs or to watch extra football. That’s just setting me up for failure.
After MUCH contemplation, here’s what I’ve come up with…
1. Get more sleep
Doesn’t this one sound awesome? Getting more sleep can help in so many areas of your life. I stay up late every night and have to walk up at the crack of jack every morning. Getting less than 6 hours of sleep does not make for a super-friendly Kelly.
My goal is to start shooting for 7-8 every night, and catching up on the weekends.
2. Learn more about nutrition and weight loss from a health perspective
While I’ve often referred to myself as a professional dieter for having tried nearly every diet known to man and for having 20 years experience at this profession, I feel like my weight loss and long-term maintenance could be strengthened by learning more about the dietetics and science of weight loss. And, of course… I’ll share what I learn!
3. Take better care of my skin (and gums)
I have a birthday next week… and I’m not getting any younger. My skin has been pretty healthy all my life, but it’s time to FREEZE the aging that is beginning on my face. No need to progress any further. Since I’ll be conducting an evening skin regimen this year, I decided to toss in a resolution for conducting some extra flossing before bed. To my hygienist, you’re welcome!
4. Connect with more Bloggers
I’ve had a blast getting to know fellow healthy living bloggers during 2012, and I’d like to meet some additional folks who are passionate about good health, good food, and good living! Whether local to Colorado or at conferences this year, I’m excited to meet more of these like-minded folks!
5. Continue to dig deep to understand the psychology of weight loss / weight gain
So, this one’s a lot about me, and a little about you guys… I’ve touched on emotional eating and my struggles with food over the past year. I really want to dig deeper into these issues and figure out some strong coping mechanisms and fantastic ways to power through those moments when I’m faced with high-calorie, low-nutrient foods.
6. Take No Thanks to Cake to the next level
Similar to a resolution I made last year, I just love growing this “little blog that could.” I’ve got lots of ideas for next steps, including developing features, incorporating a publishing network, partnering with my favorite brands, and some design changes as well. I’d also like to do more guest posting and write features for some of my favorite healthy living sites. More to come on all of this as the year gets started!
7. Vacation more
Right now, my travel calendar only has two trips on it: My dear Natalie’s wedding in Kansas CIty in May and Fitbloggin in Portland. I need to find time to head back to DC, a few trips to Montelucia, and a trip to Nashville. I also want to go see my dad in Florida, and perhaps a trip to see my Southern California ladies. Lots to plan, lots to plan…
SEVEN goals is a LITTLE more aggressive than I had hoped… but #7 is just plain fun. I desperately need #1 and #3… and the rest are just interests! I’ve got this!
What’s one resolution you’ve set for 2013?
[…] not one of my formal resolutions because it’s more of a lifestyle change, my plan is to stay committed to a Jenny meal plan. […]
