Over the past few weeks, I’ve decided to bring back Work Out Wednesdays (WOW.) I feel like I’ve gotten into a solid workout routine, and I’m at the point where I’m setting stronger workout goals for myself. September’s goals even involve a goal that I’ve never set for myself…
I am talking about working something that I like to think doesn’t exist… you know the “zones” I’m referring to. Those areas that need a little extra toning. The areas that you need to be working on, but you haven’t been.
TARGETING “THE ZONES”
I also like to refer to them as “wobbly bits” because that sounds so British and fun. For those of you who know me well, you know how I adore British phrases.
Whether you call them “zones” or “wobbly bits” or “target areas”… whatever you call them, we all have them. Except for maybe Princess Katherine… and realistically, it takes work to get rid of them or to minimize their appearance. Kate works it, I’m sure!
I posted a few months ago a response to a question about loose skin. Thankfully, I don’t have any. Unfortunately, I haven’t always been as diligent with my strength training. That’s going to change this September.
Since September 1st, I’ve been amping up my weight training. I’ve been including exercises with each round of cardio, and challenging myself to hit the entire circuit of machines. What are my zones that I’m working on?
I’ve decided to REALLY TRY to firm up my ARMS.

The princess has fantastically fit arms. Truth be told: she’s a little more muscular than I’d like to be.
I used to have very large (non-muscular) arms, and I’ve never been TRULY comfortable walking around in sleeveless shirts and tanks. While my arms look so much better and are starting to have some definition, I still want to see greater results. The toning up until this month has been primarily achieved through yoga.
Greater results just don’t happen though… you have to work at it.
I’m doing at least two machines each night and up to four different exercises as part of this workout. While I’m working on biceps, I’m focused even more on triceps. It’s strange to be working on this area as summer comes to a close, and I start to discontinue wearing the sleeveless tops… but, really, there’s no time like the present.
I’m doing bicep curls, tricep curls, overhead presses, and one other machine that burns when I use it…. I guess I’ve blocked its name out but I can tell it’s working!!
I also found a link on Pinterest to a workout that allegedly produces better arms in 7 days. I may try working some of these techniques in as well. I’m determined to get better looking, STRONGER arms!
The interesting part about targeted training like this is that I’ve known forever EXACTLY where I need to work… but I don’t love to work those areas. That’s how they’ve gotten flabby. To whine for a moment….It sort of HURTS when I do it. It’s not comfortable and it’s not easy. My arms give out before the workout is done, for example. How fun is that! (Not at all)
I like working out to be enjoyable and full of smile-inducing endorphins. I’m not really looking for pain, whether it’s felt TODAY or a DAY LATER. But, it’s time! I just need to remind myself of this….
So, for September… I’m working on my arms. I’ll let you know about my progress as the month continues. It may take a few months before I see the changes I’m hoping to see… but we’re going to get there (me and my triceps!)
Do you enjoy strength training? How often do you incorporate it into your workouts?

I’m so self-conscious about my arms and I think that I will have a lot of loose skin there once I hit my goal weight, which sucks! I really need to focus on my arms as well.
Btw, I came across your blog yesterday I’m making my way through your archives. Your blog is very inspiring and I’m glad I found it
HATE target areas…my big one is the one I refer to as the “underbutt.” That horrible upper back thigh area that NEVR wants to be as tone as the rest of you…no matter what. I do feel your arm pain too. In my world, the arm issue is refered to as UADD (unde arm dingle dangle)
I do enjoy my strength training, but dont do it nearly enough…unless carrying the little one counts.

Well at least by spring/summer of next year, your arms will be so awesome it will be one less thing to worry about for swimsuit season! Last year at this time I did the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I enjoyed strength more than cardio because it was more challenging and the workouts changed so often. Still, I had to put in MUCH more effort with strength training… and I got lazy
My arms and stomach are my wobbly bits. Yes I have a giant rear but I cannot get rid of that because I like it and someday people might pay me if I have a bigger hiney than Kim Kardashian and I’m thin too
