I adore Emily Giffin books. I’ve read them all now, and she’s become one of my absolute favorite authors.
One of my FB friends recently posted a pic of her and Emily at a book signing… I literally GASPED! So jealous!! Keep in mind, if I had the chance to meet the author, I’d be a total dork… just totally gush about how I loved her books and make her take a picture with me. Or just stand there in silence because I didn’t know what to say. It would be one or the other, and completely awkward either way. I’m clearly your coolest fan, Ms. Giffin.
When I read in January that she was publishing her latest book in July of this year, I immediately pre-ordered it. I didn’t want to forget about it, and I wanted to be amongst the first to read it (of course!)
While the book published on Tuesday, I held onto it until the weekend before I started reading. When I read EG’s books, I get totally sucked in…. and I’ve been known to stay up all night finishing it. Knowing that most of my workdays are pretty intense, there was no way I could stay up all night reading. When Friday night rolled around, it was on.
The storyline is centered upon Marian, a fun, fearless female living in NYC, who is surprised one night by a knock on her door. She opens the door to find 18 year old Kirby Rose staring back at her. An 18 year old girl that she gave away for adoption 18 years prior.
As usual, Giffin develops the characters in such a way that you get to know them, you feel for each of their situation, and your heart breaks and warms throughout their interactions. As you can imagine, this situation of being reunited has its tender moments as well as its awkwardness.
The story is told from the point of view of both ladies, which makes it even more endearing. You hear what Kirby hopes from the interaction and you hear her disappointment when it doesn’t meet her expectations. You hear Marian’s trepidation in connecting, yet her longing to know her long-lost daughter.
While I’m never one to give away a story or spoil the experience…. I will tell you that the biological father shows up in the story and in many ways steals the show! If they ever create a movie from this book, Conrad would have to be a rugged sexy actor… someone like John Corbett, I think. And, I love John Corbett… so if that’s a hint at what I think about the dad, you’ve got me figured out!
I’d love to tell you all of the details of the book! About Kirby and Marian’s first night, about how their relationship developed, about the delicious daddy who made this whole situation possible, but… I think you should just read it yourself.
What I give you is my STRONG ENDORSEMENT and four(teen) stars! With that, download or order the book by clicking here! When you’ve finished the book, do stop back and leave a comment telling me how much you loved it. Seriously, I’ll be baffled if you didn’t love it. This book is amazing!
For those of you who read it, do you feel a sequel coming on or is that just my wishful thinking??
