FINALLY. After about 6 months of thinking about it…
I went to a PILATES class.
My gym offers a free class on Tuesday nights around 7pm. On a normal week (like this one), 7pm is completely doable! Especially when I have my bag packed for the gym.
When I walked into class, I was surprised to see that the instructor was almost twice my age (and fabulous!) I instantly knew that this class was going to be solid. I also noticed that the Bee Gees were blasting in the class…. adding a little extra fun.
The instructor was so cute and apologized for the music… but said she was “feeling disco” tonight. I think there were a LOT of people feeling the disco in the room… including this girl!
Before the class got started, I had to set up my props. Who knew that this class needed so many things? Here’s what I had to get:
Mat (which I brought)
Exercise Ball
Ball Stand (so it doesn’t roll around)
3 lb. Weights
9 lb. Weighted Bar
It was a full house, and we got started quickly with some planks. I do planks in Yoga, so I was familiar. However, I’ve never done planks for 60 seconds and then multiple times. Wow!
We planked, we did crunches on a fitness ball, we balanced, and we worked the CORE! My core is one of those sections that I neglect a little. It’s been getting tighter, but it’s not because I’m spend a lot of time working on it. Even though I’ve lost a lot of inches there, I know that I still have some firming to do…
I made it through the class, and honestly, my abs were exhausted by the end. As I sit here writing this post, I am VERY aware of my abs. Not to say that they’re sore necessarily, but they’re noticeable. Actually, they’re probably sore.
I think I’m going to try to go to this class again and see how much better I get over time. I wasn’t able to do all of the ab work, but I know that I could eventually. There also was enough familiarity to the class that made for easy entry. I like the fact that it has some yoga built in, and then some new moves for me to learn as well.
Have you tried Pilates??
If you haven’t tried it yet and/or you’ve been thinking about it for six months like me…
That’s my hope, at least!
