During my two weeks between jobs, I had a lot of time to just be. To relax. To rest a little. And, to do those things that have been on my list for months.
I’ve always wanted to make a vision board. The idea of it just intrigues me, and I have officially made my first. Inspired by blogger friends Ashley and Brooke who are advocates for vision boarding, I had to jump in and try!
I firmly know that what I focus on is what I create in my life. (Exhibit A: The Happiness Tour!) So, I decided to take a stab at creating some really awesome stuff as we move into 2016.
How to Create a Vision Board
Supplies I Used
A Stack of Your Favorite Magazines
Rubber Cement (or your favorite glue)
Poster board, canvas, or foam board
Scissors
Going through your magazines is perhaps the best part of the process. I chose magazines that I thought would have words/images that spoke to me and thankfully, I subscribe to a lot that fit the bill. Here’s a few that worked for me: Self, Fitness, Real Simple, Oprah Magazine, Bon Appetite, and the list goes on!
Unfortunately, my magazine supply was a little weak this month, so I ended up going to Barnes and Noble and flipping through a few magazines to find images and words that matched what I was looking for. It took a LOT of searching to find just the right things. My recommendation is to save up magazines and/or clip images over a few months. That way, you don’t have to scour stores to find what you need!
I had a few areas of focus that I wanted to capture in my vision board: Finding Love, Getting Active Again, Feeding My Soul through Meditation, and Finding time to Relax and Get Away.
I found a lot of great words and images to depict these goals… and I found this super cute canvas at Hobby Lobby to attach the words.
Placing the images was a lot of fun as well. I wanted to cluster the ideas that were related, and put it together in a way that made it look pretty. In many ways, I wanted my vision board to look like art. To make sure I’d captured everything as I’d like it, I placed the items on the board and let them sit to soak in for a few days. I ended up making a few changes between this version and the final version.
A few days later, I decided to make it permanent… and added a few other items/thoughts I had found.
I decided to hang my vision board in my room where I’d see it every single day. I read something from it every night, and really try to focus on the images that I’ve placed at least once a day. I’m optimistic that it’s going to bring great things to my life… much like my Happiness Tour.
I’m also amazed that since I’ve made it, I’ve had so many people share with me that they too have made one, and it has brought great change to their lives! I’m excited to report back in six months how the vision board has served me.
Have you ever made a Vision Board? Did it bring you what you were looking for?
