I’m thrilled to have a chance to write today’s post on this Workout Wednesday, especially since it gives me the chance to write about my experience at Jodi’s Race for Awareness.
It’s been three years that I’ve had the pleasure of participating in this fantastic race, and it’s also been three years since my friend Bev was diagnosed with stage one Ovarian Cancer. I’m thrilled to report that Bev remains cancer free 2+ years later, and I’m hopeful that our contributions to this race is able to help others fight a good fight… and that the $1800 that Team Bev raised will help those diagnosed with this horrible disease find peace and win their battle like Bev.
Saturday morning, we met in the beautiful City Park in Denver to participate in the 5K. Surprisingly, it was a very cool morning, only in the 50s when we began to assemble the team. Our team had made gorgeous tutus and planned to rock them at the race, but I really hadn’t planned for the weather.
We only had an hour to hang out before the race, so very quickly we were able to get moving and warm up!
Let’s talk about Team Bev – – Team Bev is a team we started back in 2011, in an effort to do SOMETHING to support Bev in her fight. In 2011, we signed up 25 men and women to walk with us. In 2012, our team grew to 38 people. Can you believe that by 2013, our team DOUBLED to 57 team members!
Last year, I attempted to run the race, but this year… I fully intended to walk every bit of it! I loved how much less stress I had going into the race this year as a result. Knowing that I had a lot of more time to chat, I partnered up with Tiffany and Adrienne to chat our way to the finish line.
While we ran a few intervals here and there to get around groups or to challenge ourselves to “run to that sign”, we mostly walked, stopping to take pictures at several mile markers.
And… because everyone deserves a big finish when you run a race, we decided to run that WHOLE 0.2 miles from the 3rd mile marker to the finish line. Yep, we ran like we owned the place… and because she’s hilarious, Tiffany managed to catch a running “selfie” of the two of us… love this girl!
Kimberly caught this shot of Tiffany and I just as we crossed the finish line, perhaps after our courtesy… you have to play the part when you’re wearing a tutu afterall…
All in all, we had a BLAST! It was a gorgeous morning, with the fabulous team that makes up Team Bev.
SO… WHO IS THIS TEAM BEV?
We’re fierce
We’re family
We’re Sorority Sisters
We are three-peat participants and newbies
We travel from the East coast to participate
We dress up our dogs
And… we rocked our teal tutus
And… lastly, we supported a cause that has grown near and dear to our hearts in honor of an amazing woman named Bev who beat Ovarian Cancer two years ago.
