After much anticipation, I flew to Nashville on Friday night to see my girls and to very special new addition! I arrived at the airport at around 5:30pm and sped through security. Security at Denver International can be tricky, but it was my lucky day.
I chilled at the gate until it was time to go… and noshed on some Quizno’s for dinner.
I definitely prefer Subway, but in a pinch, Quizno’s is a close 4th (#2 Spicy Pickle, #3 Which Wich.) I paired my Honey Bourbon chicken sandwich with a bag of Baked Lays and called it dinner. Ideally, I like to have my Subway in hand when I get to the airport to avoid temptation and to avoid the overpriced airport food, but there was just no time on Friday. We made it to Nashville on time, and I snagged my luggage and rental car and took off to my final destination.
The day began at 5:00am, so you can imagine landing at 10:30pm in Nashville was a little brutal. Add to that the fact that I was staying in Spring Hill (which is about 50 minutes from the airport.) Nonetheless, I piled in my Buick rental car and headed that way.
It should have been a sign that there were billboards that said “don’t drive drowsy” and that cops peppered the interstate the entire time when I was heading south. When I got into Spring Hill, I wasn’t sure what the speed limit was because it’s not marked (seriously) and guess who got pulled over at about 11:45pm, less than 5 minutes from her destination.
And, after a super-long day, this policeman got the waterworks. I started crying almost immediately… telling him that I was actually looking for a speed limit sign (which I was) and then working through my head the fact that my insurance was going to go up. Ugh.
Thankfully, I got away with just a warning “if you’ll just stop crying, ma’am.” I appreciated that warning more than you know and was the safest driver EVER after that incident. Literally the poster child for Tennessee Highway Patrol for the remainder of the weekend. THP – – I’m available for billboard ads, btw.
Jaede and her husband Greg were still up when I got to the house, and we visited for a few minutes before heading to bed. We had a busy morning ahead. I was heading out to meet a new little lady… and Jaede and I had a date with the juicer beforehand!
I mentioned in my Friday post that Jaede is a big time juicer, but what I haven’t told you is that I too am a proud owner of a juicer. About a month ago, I asked my FB friends if anyone had a juicer they weren’t using that I could borrow. It’s one of those things that many people buy to try and then only a few end up really using. Like a fondue pot or a griddle. My friend Pam ended up having one that she was willing to donate to my cause. She brought it over on 4th of July and it’s just stared at me ever since. Not sure how to use the thing (but I have a manual.)
I was excited to have a chance to try this out with an experienced juicer… and WOW, was it delish! Jaede had planned to use mango, peach, and pineapple for my first fresh juice. The mango added a thicker texture and a LOT of flavor.
So, how was my first juice experience? Well, considering that Jaede had chosen two fruits that I had never eaten before in my life (peaches and mangoes), I think it went pretty well! I’m funny about trying new things… but the juice just had such a beautiful color and a wonderful fragrance that I couldn’t resist.
Jaede mentioned that the texture was MUCH thicker than what I’d get from other juices due to the addition of the mango. I compared the consistency to that of a milkshake or a smoothie, and it was definitely delicious.
Jaede (and my friend Angela) both juice from the Juicing Bible which I flipped through all morning. There are so many recipes and combinations I want to try. Beet, Apple, Pear, for example… so I ordered it today from Amazon and can’t wait for it to arrive and for the Colorado juicing to begin!
I sipped on my juice the whole way to my friend Jen’s house where I had the chance to meet her beautiful daughter for the first time… I’ll save that story for tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I need a whole post dedicated to little Miss Illyana.
Do you juice?? Any recommendations for a newbie about to try out her juicer for the first time??
