Last week, I was engrossed in a book and didn’t share any workout updates. This week, I’ve had a great workout week…. and I’m super-excited to share some workout news.
I did something that I never thought I would do….
I got back on the Arc Trainer.
On Saturday during my workout, I was insanely bored on the elliptical. It happens like this some times, but it’s really rare. I’ve been thinking about mixing it up for a while now and adding in some new machines. My boredom seemed to be the perfect catalyst, so I walked over to the super-scary Arc Trainer.
Last time I was on this thing, I literally spent maybe 5 minutes. This week, I rode it not once, but TWICE. The first day, I did 10 minutes; the second day I did 20 minutes.
My decision to use the Arc Trainer on Sunday was not because I loved the thing… nor because I felt like I needed a good challenge. It was PURELY indulgent.
The Arc Trainer had a TV.
I wanted either an elliptical or Arc that had a TV, and of course, all the TV ellipticals were taken. So, off I went to the Arc. Why did I need a TV??
Well, this classic was on the TV…. And I had to watch the 2nd half of it.
I had spent about 20 minutes on the couch at the house glued to the television watching Love Actually on ABC Family. Seriously, what a great movie that is!!! I convinced myself to head to the gym on commercial…. Determined that I could be on a machine and watching again in no time.
The Arc Trainer works the thighs a little more intensely than the elliptical, in my opinion. Or maybe it’s that I had the resistance set higher. Either way… I could totally feel the burn, and actually stayed on the thing for a FULL 20 MINUTES. Impressive, I know.
I jumped off the Arc when I saw a TV Elliptical open and finished up another 10 minutes over there, before moving to the treadmill for the final 15 minutes of the movie.
What a great workout!
And, what a great movie! I looooooove the different story lines and how they all work together, and how about I started tearing up toward the end! First tears at the gym!
How can you not cry when the guy shows the girl the signs at the door??
Or when the little boy runs through the airport to tell Joanna that he loves her? That part always gets me.
And how about when the Colin Firth character learns Polish (?) so that he can speak with Aurelia (who also learned English)? When he goes to that little town to ask her to marry him…. Waterworks.
I “played it off” by wiping my eyes with a towel… but geez! What an emotional day at the gym!
I think I need to go more often when they have good shows/movies playing. That made it so much easier to stay on the machines and stay engaged.
If you haven’t seen Love Actually lately (or ever GASP!), watch it soon… it’s a wonderful movie. One that I didn’t realize I’d missed!
