It’s that time of the month already!  Time for my monthly wrap up… I changed it up a little this month, sharing some new things I’ve never talked about in “currently.”  Enjoy!

Current Netflix Binge:

I’ve broken down and joined Netflix.  Yes, the girl who barely watches any television has subscribed to Netflix, for one reason, two words:  GILMORE GIRLS.

Gilmore Girls | No Thanks to Cake

I never watched this show when it was on TV.  However, one extra wintry winter a few years back, I watched the entire series.  And, in watching it, I completely fell in love with Rory and Loralei.  My friend Erin said it well… If only we could be as witty as Loralei one day… 

Seriously, if you’ve never watched this series, it’s time… and the entire series is available on Netflix!  Let me know what you think of Stars Hollow, will ya?

Current Confession:

So, I haven’t really talked about it on social media… and I hate to talk about it with my friends because it’s a total downer, but my car accident last month kicked my arse.  I’ve been on the couch for a whole month… watching Gilmore Girls.  Rotating ice packs (aka bags of corn and edamame) with heat compresses… and planning to take over the world when this damn thing heals.

Now, I’m only sharing this with you now because I’m feeling SO MUCH BETTER four weeks later!  Finally!!!

yay | No Thanks to CakeI’m not 100% and I’m still afraid to carry much… but gosh, not being miserable when I wake up is heavenly!!!  For all of you who have chronic back pain, I am SO SORRY!  For all of those who have listened to me whine, THANK YOU!!!!  I owe you REAL wine!

Current Craft:

I’ve had my eye on a little capelet from Ravelry forever… And, during my fabulous couchtime and while watching Rory’s first days at Chilton… I made it!  I totally want to make another!  Maybe in a charcoal or mustard color.  What do you think??  I’m in love!

Current Memorable Moment:

At the beginning of the month, I got to participate in my very first engagement!  My friends Alex and Tiffany made it official… and Alex wanted to have Tiff’s closest friends involved in the action.  I was honored to be a part of it, and had trouble keeping a dry eye during the actual proposal.

As part of Tiffany’s engagement extravaganza, we had brunch at a little Denver restaurant called Jimmy’s Urban Bar & Grill.  I’m not huge on brunch,  but considering the special occasion, I decided to try something new that I had never had… and to just jump in.

Hello, Chicken and Waffles.  I can’t wait to come up with a healthier version of this.  There has to be one.  I’ll create it, and I’ll share it… I’m still having dreams about this stuff.  It was that good… must recreate.

Current Crazy Thing I’ve Done:

I been Christmas shopping all year long.  When I was in California at the wineries with Crystal, I picked up a few things.  I pre-ordered one of my favorite bloggers’ new books, and I even picked up a few fun things in Savannah during Fitbloggin!  All these items have been hanging out in my guest room, but it was time to get them on the road.

Current Book:

I’ve been busy reading Cameron Diaz’s Body Book this month, while walking on the treadmill.  I’m not quite done with it, and I’ve learned a LOT from reading it.  It’s really  a “real-talk” approach to how to optimize your health.  Not a lot of gimmicky ideas and mostly just good ideas for taking good care of yourself!  If this sounds like your kind of book, I definitely recommend it!

I’m SUPER-EXCITED about the new Emily Giffin book that came out this week, and it will be the book that I’m reading next.  And, when I say that I’ll read it… I mean that I’ll devour it this holiday weekend.  It’s on!

OMG… This one was EASY to answer this month.  I recently was contacted by… a cookie company, asking if I wanted to try their cookies.  And, of course, I said yes.

As a girl trying to keep an eye on my waistline, these cookies have been my guilty pleasure this month.  Rationing and portioning sweet treats is not my forte.  So, I have been sharing them with friends.  So far, I’ve tried the Chocolate Chip and Sea Salt Shortbread (OMG!), the Lemon Poppy Seed Shortbread (Delish!), and the Ginger Shortbread (Such spicy goodness!)  I’m taking the macaroons to work to share with work friends, and so I don’t eat them all!  If you’re looking to send a gift of tasty cookies or to try a new brand, I definitely recommend these delicious treats!!!

I’ve been a red wine drinker for YEARS, but I’ve just recently started exploring more and more white wines… and I think it’s going to be my summer drink!  There’s something lovely and refreshing about a glass of Savignon Blanc on a warm Colorado day while sitting on a patio.  Yep, that’s where you’ll find me this summer!

Current Food:

Avocado… Not because I’m eating a lot of it.  But instead because I’m trying to figure out what recipe I want to use for the Fitbloggin California Avocado Cutting Edge Culinary recipe contest that’s coming up!  I have a few ideas to play with… it’s going to be a weekend of experimentation… I can feel it!  Wish me luck!!

Current Favorite Show:

Grey’s Anatomy… Oh my.  Did you guys watch this week’s episode?  We’ve all known it has been coming… the official goodbye for Dr. Cristina Yang.  Cristina and Meredith Grey represent a tremendously iconic friendship… one that I’ve watched for years.  Watching Cristina walk away from “her person” and watching them dance it out one last time was just beautiful.

I feel so lucky to have strong, inspirational, and supportive women like this in my life. Never ever underestimate the power and strength that comes with having and being a good friend.  This is what makes us human, and creates that human experience we all dream of….

Current Outfit:

I’d say this was my favorite look this month.  A cute little polka dotted fit and flare number I found at JCPenney last month.  Totally on sale and with a coupon, I’m so glad this little frock made its way home with me.  PS… It has pockets!

Current Bane of My Existence:

Gray hair.  Yes… you heard me.  Good news for all y’all, I have an amazing colorist… and you will rarely see my grey.  But dang, this change of hair color mess is so overrated.

My dad went salt and pepper pretty early… and fascinatingly MY OLDER BROTHER has very little grey.  It’s a cruel, cruel world, I tell ya… :)

I’ve read so many posts and comments from women that are just not happy with this or that about their body.  I look at my body, and there are things I don’t love.  Extra chubby bits or places where my skin has stretched.  While I know I can change these via surgery or even laser treatments,  I don’t.  I won’t change them.  They’re part of me.  The whole me.  They tell a story.

Andrea shared this post, speaking to why she too loves her “ugly” body.  Take a read, you won’t be sorry… here’s a sneak peek.

New Obsession: Trader Joe’s

I know that many of you have been enjoying Trader Joe’s for years.  Can you believe that Trader Joe’s just FINALLY showed up in Colorado in February??

After letting the crowds die down a little and the overall mayhem settle, I finally made my way there!  OMG… so many yummy items to choose from!

Now, I don’t think I could really do all of my groceries here, but it’s perfect for picking up a few (or a LOT!) of specialty items.  I’ve found quite a few over the past week that are SO GOOD that I had to share.

Arugula & Parmigiano Reggiano Ravioli

These ended up being an impulse buy.  Again, I was looking for soup… and somehow I ended up with fresh pasta.  Trader Joe’s has a wonderful selection of filled pastas to choose from – - everything from lobster to bolognese to arugula.  I went with the Arugula version and cooked it up as an amazing Friday night dinner.  Pairing it with a few other purchases.

Greens

Mini Heirloom Tomatoes and Organic Micro Greens

While the Arugula pasta cooked, I sliced a few mini heirloom tomatoes with a handful of organic micro greens and some basil olive oil.  Adding a little salt and pepper, this dish was fantastic and incredibly beautiful.  This is one to try.  VERY little oil, and mostly veggies…

These tiny chocolate-lined ice cream cones are ridiculous.  They are tiny, but amazingly good.  The chocolate coating is crunchy, revealing the creamiest of ice cream on the inside (even straight from the freezer!)  Also, only 70 calories… yep, get them, too!

I bought the Garlic & Herb flavor upon my friend Tiffany’s recommendation.  OMG… so good!  I made a really decadent pizza out of it.  And, actually split the ball of dough into 4 pizzas.  While this stuff is amazing, be very aware of the serving size and the calories you’re taking in.  It’s more than you’d think, unfortunately. But check out this pizza!  AMAZING!

The flavor combination that I came up with was a little crazy… but so delicious.  How about bacon, peppadew peppers, and fresh mozzarella?  Amazing with that salty, sweet combo.  I’m going to work to make it with a little bit of a lighter dough the next time, and I’ll share the recipe.  Good stuff!
