Flapjacked Protein Pancakes

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a local company asking if I would try their new protein pancakes.  A big fan of any kind of pancakes, I agreed to try out the Flapjacked Protein Pancake Mix and was super excited when the package arrived.

The idea of protein pancakes had me a little nervous to begin with.  Protein pancakes I’ve heard have a strange texture, and the addition of all of the protein often times lends to additional calories that I’m not interested in eating.

When I looked at the products stats, I knew I wanted to try them because they weren’t like any other protein pancakes I’d seen:

  • 200 calories per serving
  • Simply add water
  • Sweetened naturally with peaches, bananas, and apples
  • 15-17 grams of protein per serving
  • 4-7 grams of fiber per serving

They sounded great!  Jennifer was kind enough to send me two flavors to sample, the original buttermilk flavor and the banana hazelnut variety.  I’ve tried the buttermilk version so far, and plan to try banana hazelnut this weekend!

The buttermilk Flapjacked pancakes were really good, and really easy to make!  The 4 oz sample pouches were perfect for me, and offer two servings per container.  I measured out 1/2 of the bag, and made half a batch to start.

I loved the fact that you simply had to add water to prepare these beautiful pancakes.  The package instructions recommended that you leave the batter sitting for a short period of time before you cook them, which was easy enough!

I had some leftover bacon in the fridge from my Cobb Salad creations, and decided to experiment a little with adding crispy bacon to my batter.  Ashley apparently had the same idea, as she made the same pancakes with turkey bacon – - Great minds think alike!

Note:  I have seriously considered order that Perfect Pancake Pan… my pancakes are always funny shapes.

I topped these beautiful pancakes with 1/4 cup of Mrs. Butterworth’s Sugarfree Msple Syrup and dug in…  While the texture was a little different than what I’m used to in fluffy buttermilk (translation: high calorie buttery pancakes), they were flavorful, filling, and delicious!

I’m planning to make the second half of the pouch with a little PB2 mixed in, and I’m looking forward to trying the banana hazelnut.  If it’s anything like the buttermilk, I think I’m in for a treat.  There’s also a listing of recipes you can make on the website that I’m eager to try too!

If you’re interested in trying these out, Flapjacked has a sample pack where you can order 4 oz. packages of all three flavors for $9.99 – - Buttermilk, Hazelnut Banana, and Apple Cinnamon.  A great way to try all three flavors!

Do you enjoy protein pancakes?  Have you tried Flapjacked?

Note:  Flapjacked Protein Pancakes provided me with two free packets of their protein pancakes; however, all opinions above are my own.

You guys know that I like to shop… and that I like to cook… and that I like to eat.  I’ve been doing a lot of those three things lately, and I’ve come across so many new things I couldn’t resist sharing!

Special K Pastry Crisps – Brown Sugar Cinnamon Flavor

Holy freakin’ wow!  These are AMAZING!!!!  Sara had mentioned in response to Monday’s post that I needed to try these Special K Pastry Crisps … and OMG, she was so right!  They taste like light, flaky Pop Tarts and they’re only 100 calories.  I could not believe how good these were!  Yum-O!

Jenny Craig Cranberry Almond Barscotti

My JCC Amalia has been talking about the barscotti for a while.  I kind of thought she meant “biscotti”… oh no, she meant barscotti.  This is a chewy, yummy breakfast bar that has a really good almondy flavor and it’s (wait for it) topped with STREUSEL.  I thought it was REALLY good… and really enjoyable with a cup of coffee.  Can’t wait to get more!  Jenny – I wonder if these are temporary? Let’s hope not….

Cocktail Cucumbers

Have you seen these yet?  They’re TINY cucumbers that you can eat whole… they’re like the size of a smaller pickle and SO GOOD.  I picked these up at Costco yesterday… and ate a TON of them already!  Can’t wait to buy more!  PS.. They’re VERY dippable too!  Great with a tasty veggie dip like this one!

Alpine Avocado Vinaigrette

When I was at Whole Foods last weekend, I had a chance to sample this AMAZING vinaigrette!  It’s so fresh and so delicious… and it’s made right here in Colorado with fresh ingredients!  Click here to read the story about Alpine Avocado Vinaigrette and to order some to try yourself!

Food For Life Sprouted Bread

I’ve read on Ashley and Lauren‘s blogs about Ezekiel bread and have been so tempted to try it out.  I am quite the bread lover, so I thought I’d give it a shot.  I found this Food for Life 7 Sprouted Grains bread in the frozen foods section, and have enjoyed trying it.  I’ve used it to add a slice of garlic bread to a pasta meal or to create a veggie sandwich.  It’s really good, and definitely something to check out!  Tip:  I keep it in the freezer and thaw one slice at a time to avoid over-indulging…

Lauren Conrad Earrings

Ok, so I’m going to sneak a few fun non-food items in too… I just LOVE these earrings.  They’re from Kohl’s (REALLY!?)  from the Lauren Conrad collection.  They looks great with rose gold and are super sparkly.  Kohl’s always is running a sale… so you can pick them up fairly cheap!  Watch out though… LC has a lot of cute jewelry!  You may end up with more than just this pair… :)

Conair Ceramic Hairdryer

My hairdryer decided to give out about a week ago… on a day when I needed it no less.  So, I ran to Target to get its replacement and found this fabulous dryer from Conair.  Why do I like it?  It air blows from it sort of gently… and it seems like a much more expensive dryer than it is.  Also, the cord retracts into the handle, which is always a bonus.  Total upgrade on the hairdryer… for the price of a regular one!

Pier One Holiday Napkins

I got these super-cute napkins from my friend Donna, and I think I’m going to have to bust them out this weekend.  She picked them up at Pier One who always seems to have cute holiday stuff!  Halloween is just around the corner, and where better to use such cute napkins than a Wine and Cheese Game night? (Alecia and Deb – You get to use these!  Get excited!)

Have you come across anything new that you want to share with the NTTC readers?  Anything we should try??
