Hello JC, I’m Back!

Monday morning, I did something I haven’t done in a while.

I got on the scale.

Based upon my recent eating habits, I knew that I wasn’t going to see a loss on the scale, but I definitely needed to see whatever number was staring back at me.

And, I winced slightly.  I didn’t wince in horror or topple to the ground, but the extra 3 lbs that were staring back at me made themselves known.  3 lbs.  Really???  It was that bacon on Saturday night.  I knew it!!

We all know that one meal doesn’t cause a 3 lb gain, especially one of my meals.  It just doesn’t happen.  The reality is that there are other things working to my disadvantage.  My biggest challenge as of late is that my portions have not been in control. Eating too much of healthy food can be just as bad as eating the bad stuff.

Regardless, I decided that Monday was the day I was going to focus up, use my mantra, and some of the Skinny Rules Bob Harper told me about the night before.  Facing the scale was just one piece of the puzzle.

WATER

I started the morning with a HUGE glass of water.  This is one of Bob’s rules.  He suggests you drink a huge glass of water as soon as you get up.  I did this… and it worked, Bob.  It got me drinking water and I truly drank more water today than I have in a long time.  It sort of primed the pump, if you will… gosh, I feel old saying that, but I think you know what I mean, right?

After I started the water so early in the morning, I found myself thirsty and drinking water all day.  How refreshing!  I had more than 72 oz of water before 5pm.  Impressive, eh?

FOOD

For breakfast, I had Jenny Craig cinnamon rolls (AKA Breakfast of Champions) and for lunch, I decided to head into the office with a plan.  I’ve heard people raving about the new JC Stuffed Shells, so I gave them a shot.

Spinach on the inside... oh, yeah...

Doesn't that look great? It was filling and really tasty!

I also took what was left of a container of grape tomatoes with me to work along with a Fiber One Chocolate and Oats bar.  With these snacks, I figured I’d be all set to make it through the day.

The Ride Home

On my way home from work, I was on the phone with a friend of mine when the strangest thing happened.  How about Jenny Craig popped up on my caller ID as an inbound call?  I put my friend on hold to answer the call and found out it was simply the center calling to check up on me.

I literally hadn’t heard from them in months (six months) to be exact, but the timing couldn’t have been better.  Seriously, I credit cosmic intervention.  I mean, otherwise how did Jenny know to call right when I needed her most??

I also like to think these ladies might have had something to do with it. (Not a coincidence Mariah is not pictured here.)

The center director who called invited me to come in for a consultation this week, and I decided to detour my drive home and go MONDAY AFTERNOON.  I’m so glad I did!

I had a chance to meet with a fantastic consultant and face the scale…. and the scale at Jenny’s place only had me up slightly (super-smart scale.)  The best news is that I made another appointment for the weekend and talked to the consultant about my goals.

I instantly felt accountability to this new consultant and to myself.  What a great feeling!!!

I left my consultation so re-energized and focused on the program.  I told my new consultant (who rocks) that I wanted to do some sort of halfway approach where I can eat regular foods and Jenny Foods.  We’re going to build that plan during my visit on Saturday.  Stay tuned!

Working Out

Even though my afternoon took a turn, I still made it to the gym.  With more magazines from my magazine cleanup project in hand, I walked on the treadmill for about 35 minutes and did a full circuit of strength training.  It was awesome.

The Best Part

OHHHHHHH…. and the BEST PART.  I hadn’t weighed in formally at JC since January 26th.  But, I was only up like 2 lbs (at the end of the day) from when I last weighed.  Why is a gain awesome?  Because that’s all I gained in almost 6 months.  What that tells me is that I’m going to be able to do this for the long haul.  So excited!!

Will keep you posted as to what I discover on Saturday.  I’m expecting to be down, even after 5 days!  Let’s do this!

A Little Friendly Advice

Today was a good day.  I woke up with miserable allergy symptoms, which honestly makes me quite disgusting and snotty to be around.  Just the same, I had plans with a friend this morning.  Earlier in the week, my friend Kristin and I planned to get together and do something in the earlier part of the day.  We do coffee often, enjoy movies (The Vow!), and have this really uniquely bonded friendship.  I can’t say enough about how much I adore her.

This morning when I was feeling pitiful and snotty, she unknowingly gave me some good advice about how I was feeling: “Don’t make it worse than it is,” she said.  Brilliant.  Don’t you love it when friends tell you exactly what you need?  I do.

So… after she and I had a lovely cup of coffee in the Colorado sunshine, I took her advice and ran my errands, instead of going home and being pitiful.  I did a few things I’ve been meaning to do… one of which was finding my local recycling drop off station.  I started recycling for the first time at the beginning of the year and had no idea where to take them.  Found it!

I also went to Jenny Craig to get some food… something that I’ve been wanting to do ever since I ate my last cinnamon roll last week.  I also stocked up on some of my JC favorites (Rising Crust Pizza and the Meatball Stuffed Sandwich), as I’ll need them this week and moving forward.  I’ll tell you more details about my new eating plan next week.  It’s going to be amazing.

I also KILLED it at the gym… with a pack of Kleenex in the cupholder on the treadmill, I did a fantastic round of my C25K training program.  Even with my snottiness and my thinking I was “sick,” I ran stronger and more effectively than I have any other time on this program.  Frankly, I feel so much better after that workout!  I also did some new exercises I picked up from the trainer last week.  Overall, I feel awesome.

I had planned to have a quiet Saturday night in.  With all that I’ve accomplished for the day, I am happily settling in with a movie tonight.  I also made a ridiculous dinner.  So, so good.  I’ll post the recipe for you guys tomorrow.  Think pizza.  And get ready for something soooooo good.

Two New Product Finds that Helped Make Dinner Tonight

What a lovely day.  I give you this, my dear readers.  It’s all about perspective.  When the day’s starting out rough, “don’t make it worse than it is…”  that’s my advice to you, and advice I’m so glad to have received this morning.
