For the past few weeks, I’ve been playing a trick on myself and I’ve been tricking myself into going to the gym!
Yep, sometimes I have to trick myself to get me there… it’s true. I wish I was that girl that lived to workout, but, unfortunately, I just don’t. I workout to keep my calorie intake in check and to tone up!
Most times, when I get going in whatever activity I choose for the day, the endorphins start pumping and I get in a positive groove. That being said: Getting there is where I require the trickery.
After a long day at work and my gross commute, my couch looks so comfortable. But, I’ve used this bad boy to coax me into a little early evening sweat-fest…

Do you know how many crazy suspenseful moments Dan Brown paints in his novels? It’s kept me on the treadmill and has kept me craving more time at the gym and more time with the book!
I’m only half way through Inferno after hours on the treadmill, and I find myself looking forward to heading to the Y, even after the longest day of work. Mission Accomplished!
I’m a HUGE Dan Brown fan. He’s one of those authors that weaves a page-turning, intelligent thriller that has me googling artwork and historical documents. I really don’t know how he does it, but I adored Angels and Demons, The Davinci Code, and he’s done it again with Inferno.
In the beginning, I was determined to AT LEAST do 30 minutes on the treadmill and Robert Langdon got me through it! I know, 30 minutes doesn’t sound like much, but 30 minutes is so much better than NO MINUTES, which is the alternative I was slipping into.
Considering that 30 minutes has been my minimum goal for a while now, I was also excited to see my folks at Jenny Craig is also advocating for the same: Below are some easy tips from Jenny Craig on how to fit 30 minutes of walking into your day. The thing I like about Jenny’s suggestions is that they can easily be incorporated into your regular schedule very easily:
- At Work: In the morning, park 10 minutes away from your office and walk briskly. At lunch, walk 10 minutes in or around your office. In the afternoon/evening, walk briskly 10 minutes back to your vehicle.
- At Home: Start your day by taking a 10 minute stroll through your neighborhood. In the afternoon, walk in place for 10 minutes as you watch your favorite show. After dinner, gather the whole family and take a 10 minute walk around the block.
- On the Weekend: Take a 10 minute walk to your local farmers’ market and load up of fresh fruits and vegetables for the week, followed by a 10 minute walk home. Later in the afternoon, call your best friend to catch up and walk around the house for 10 minutes instead of sitting on the couch.
- Or the NTTC Favorite: Grab the new Dan Brown book and hit the gym! I dare you to want to leave after 30 minutes!
