Not to be confused with my monthly currently post, I wanted to look back at January and discuss how it’s been as I’ve refocused my efforts on weight loss.
Let me start by telling you: I haven’t been focused like this in a long time. To me, there’s nothing like being in the zone… and I’m living in the zone right now. I’m meal planning, I’m cooking, I’m snacking healthily. Things are going really well.
I’ll share with you the weight loss I had for the month, and before you say it, it’s not a huge number. Trust me, no one knows this more than me.
For all my efforts, for all the times I said “no thanks to cake” in January, I only lost 2.5 lbs in my first month out of the gates. BUT, I lost 2.5 lbs this month… and I’ll take it!
Better Food Choices
The month started off with me challenging myself to remember what it was like to make better choices. Resisting all of those things I’d been indulging in for months… things that just seemed like normal things now had a new value and a new consequence. And, more than wanting that pint of Halo Top, I wanted to slim down my body.
New favorite choices for the month include 2-ingredient dough, all of the Skinnytaste recipes that I’ve been able to get my hands on, and a plethora of crockpot dishes. All of these paired with fresh fruit, fresh veggies, and as much water as I could consume have been my M.O. for the month.
Struggles on the Road
A lot has changed since I used to travel for work (you know during the time when I lost weight the first time.) While I used to travel solo, I now travel with a super social, super fun bunch who likes to wine and dine every evening.
I spent the last ten days of the month on the road with these folks… and while I made some great choices (veggies for breakfast and healthy dinner choices), there were moments of weakness as well. And, as usual, many glasses of rosé – – my kryptonite.
True story: When I’m home, I drink very little wine. When I’m on the road (and worse when I’m with friends), the wine flows really well… and goes down like water unfortunately.
Getting Moving
This month, I did get moving a little. With lovely Colorado weather, I’ve been trying to get outside to walk at the beautiful parks in the area. I love a little trail or a little water. And, amongst us friends, I’m just glad to be out there doing it…. I am very proud of my walks.
Even more proud, I got some activity when I was on the road. I went to the gym multiple times (with a 4:50am wake up call, I’ll have you know!) and went on a long walk during a long weekend in California.
I know that moving will be important as look to slim down my lower body, and it’s these baby steps that will create a habit and build my confidence in this area.
Where My Girls At?
During January, I also couldn’t have made it without my girls. Special shoutout to all my favorites, the Instafriends, and so many more that have shared ideas and took a minute to fist pump on the fact that I’m back at it! I literally couldn’t do this without y’all.
Looking Ahead
Since I’ve been home (for a few days so far), I’ve already seen my scale calm down. I’ve lost the bloaty pounds I pick up from flying and I’ve eaten really well. Between us: I’m pretty sure that I had some bloatiness in my final weigh in of January, but we’ll just assume that will be reflected as extra loss in February.
Travel is part of my life. I will always travel for work, for fun. It’s just something I love too much to give it up. With that, I’ve got to show up a little more prepared for the week. As I travel this week, I’ll be packing some breakfast and snacks to take with me.
Spending the weekend with my friend Natalie, there is no reason we can’t eat healthily throughout the weekend (even if we indulge a little in rosé.) It’s bound to happen.
Also – – Something different, I’m attending a leadership meeting at our HQ this week. As part of the agenda, they have workout classes in the morning for those who wish to attend. While I normally avoid working out at these events, I think I’m going to go to Thursday morning yoga.
The only issue is it’s from 6am-7am, with breakfast from 7am-8am, and then general sessions starting at 8am. Clearly these times were put together by male team members. It takes me a solid 45 minutes to get ready. If I do yoga, I’ll miss breakfast completely. I’ll keep you posted…
If it seems like it will be too tight on time, I can always walk on the treadmill earlier in the day.
