I’m always drinking water. When I hear people say that they “don’t like” water, I just don’t get it. I mean, it’s hydrating and flavorless and DELISH! That being said, when Sprouts invited me to join them for a special tour of their Mississippi Avenue location here in Denver I jumped at the opportunity!
Not only did I have a chance to meet up with several lovely Denver bloggers, but it also gave me an opportunity to learn more about one of the stores where I shop the most! Such a great time led by Suzanne Farrell of Cherry Creek Nutrition.
Living at altitude, it’s incredibly important that you stay hydrated. I’ve noticed since I’ve lived here in Denver, that I get hydration headaches when I don’t have enough water. That being said, I’m very conscious of making sure I get my water in. Not only does water intake keep me from getting headaches, but it also helps my mood, helps my skin look great, and of course, helps with weight management.
When I think about the amount of water that I’m supposed to consume on a daily basis, my mind jumps to how many glasses of liquids I drink every day. Most often, it’s recommended that you consume half your weight in ounces (example: If you weigh 150 lbs, you should consume 75 ounces of water daily.) With that, I was surprised to hear that 20% of that comes from foods we enjoy!
Especially in the summer, fresh fruits and vegetables can be a great way to stay cool and stay hydrated! Did you know:
- Watermelon and strawberries are 92% water
- Peppers contain 90% water
- Cucumbers lead the pack with all fruits and vegetables with 97% water
I was also surprised to see that Sprouts has a cold-pressed juice stand. Did you know this? We had a chance to sample the juices, which were delicious. I walk through Sprouts at such a fast pace, rushing around to pick up groceries every week that I’ve never really noticed.
Of course, I sampled the Sweet Beet Blend. It was so tasty and refreshing! I’ll certainly be stopping back to have more!
Suzanne led us through the store, pointing out coffee options, coconut water, and broths, advising us on how to hydrate best. I was also surprised to hear popsicles on the list. Not only are they delicious, but a great way to add water into your world. She recommended choosing popsicles like this Outshine brand that have a short ingredient list of fruit and water.
As the tour came to a close, we all received our goodie bags, filled to the brim with hydrating products and a gift card to say thanks for joining the event.
Thanks, Sprouts, for an amazing night and for teaching me how important it is to stay hydrated during the summer and throughout the year!
