Friday Food Flops

After all the gorgeous baked goods this week giving you not ONE but TWO decadent Valentine’s treats, I thought it would be fun to post some of my recipe flops.

Not every meal is a masterpiece, and there are times where I am just plain underwhelmed by a recipe.  It can be one that is pinned a million times on Pinterest, or even one shared by a fellow blogger. In the end, it doesn’t even come close to tantalizing my tastebuds.  (i.e. the Fish Sauce debacle from a few weeks back…)

Now, for a food blogger, you get to the end of the process…. you’ve taken all of those pictures,   You have the step by step process beautifully captured before you ever take the first bite.  It makes it even more disappointing when something doesn’t quite work out.

WW Buffalo Chicken Bites were what this was supposed to be. Found the recipe on Pinterest, but it made more of a buffalo chicken soupy mess.

Macaroni and Cheese Muffins… Another Pinterest find. This was supposed to be my answer to my Kraft Mac and Cheese cravings… but it was just bland city.  I even doused it with hot sauce to choke it down, but it just wasn’t good.

Even though the pics are pretty… there’s no way I’d post the recipe.  I don’t post things that are just “ok” afterall.  I just don’t think that’s fair to you guys.  I mean, what if that’s the only recipe you try… and it’s lackluster???  I just can’t have that.

Rutabaga Fries… I felt better when my girl Gina over at Skinnytaste agreed that rutabaga fries are a no-go. I tried to like them… I really did…

How about my two-time failed attempt to make bourbon bbq sauce? Yeah… no need to share all that!

And, while I don’t have a picture of it tonight to share… my kitchen gets messy too.  I mean, how could it not with all this food in it??  I get a lot of questions about how I keep things so neat.  Silly, readers…. I just don’t take pictures of the mess!

Vegan Banana Donuts with PB2 Glaze… Oh, I wanted these to be the BEST EVER. They were just ok. Tiffany and I ate them after a big hike, but I don’t think they’ll get made again…

Molasses Dijon Chicken, you were supposed to be another HUGE win from Weight Watchers. Instead, I was glad I only made one serving…

In the end, you HAVE to try a lot of recipes to come across the GOOD ones.   I’ll keep screening them for you, my dears… but I couldn’t resist sharing some of the flops I’ve had along the way.

What’s the worst concoction you’ve made lately?

I think you should have a a regular Friday Flops post! This was awesome. I actually wondered what you did with that bourbon… I ended up deciding you must have sent it to your Grandpa! And I have been hearing about the rutabaga fries…didn’t think they sounded good, but now I don’t even want to try them! Oh, and the mac and cheese — just have yourself some Kraft, Girl! How would we know that you didn’t like something unless you tell us? I vote for weekly or monthly Friday Flops! That was fun :)

My buffalo chicken bites bombed too. They were not ball shaped, too soupy. It’s also nice to hear other people have some bad Pinterest remakes. I thought it was just me.

Seriously… how could that recipe have worked out for anyone?? I ended up putting the “buffalo chicken soup” inside of wontons, which was actually pretty good, but I was craving the crispy bites. I’ll find a recipe that makes them right and keep you posted! :)

  3. I love this post because it seems like I have a lot more food recipe flops than successes. I agree, I don’t want to share something that I personally wasn’t enthralled with! However, I do feel bad/guilty whenever I make something (and I MUST MUST MUST institute your “halving” recipe rule!) and it sucks, and then we have a ton of leftovers that end up getting pitched. This just recently happened with a Crockpot Teriyaki Chicken recipe I pinned. It was just ‘ok’ and it ended up giving Joel and I so much heartburn we just threw it out :/.

Dude… I hate sucky recipes. NEVER, EVER fall for those mac and cheese cupcakes. Horrible. They’re like little eggy quiches or something… so sick, and I felt the need to choke them down. AND, that was just HALF the recipe … UGH!
